Verb


Verbs can be divided into two main classes

 A)  Lexical verb                        
 B)  Auxiliary verb


 Lexical verb / Main verb


The lexical verb is considered the base verb which is an obligatory part of a verb phrase .

   Forms of a verb


1. Vo  - base form – Zero verb

   I write  letters everyday.

2. Vs – s/es/ies (Present simple – (He/ She/ It)

  He writes  letters everyday.

3. Ving ( Present participle)   
 
  He is writing a letter.

4. Ved  ( Simple past)

  He wrote a letter.

5. Ven ( Past participle)

  He has written a letter.

Main Divisions of lexical verbs


a) Regular Verb  2) Irregular Verb

Regular Verb

A regular verb takes ‘ed’ form in the simple past and the past participle.

Irregular Verb


An irregular verb does not take ‘ed’ form in the simple past and the past participle.
